Who is responsible for the editorial content on Politikjournal24?
The Chefredaktör, Simon Engels, holds ultimate editorial responsibility for every piece of content published on Politikjournal24. He oversees the adherence to our editorial standards and is the final authority on publication decisions and corrections. He can be reached directly at anders.lindqvist@politikjournal24.de or +46 8 525 030 61.
Our newsroom is structured with clear, named editors in charge of specific beats. Katrin Fischer, as Redaktionschef, manages the daily newsroom, headline review and commissioning. Jonas Hartmann is the Politikredaktör covering the riksdag, government and municipal politics. Eva Lang is the Wirtschaftreporter for economy, markets and household finance. David Lorenz serves as Kultur- och samhällsredaktör. Each editor is named on every article they oversee. A full list of our editorial team is available on our Our Team page.
How does the editorial process work from pitch to publication?
Every article published on Politikjournal24 follows a structured, three-stage editorial process: drafting by a named writer, review by an editor, and fact-checking before publication. No piece bypasses any of these stages.
Writers, whether staff or freelance, submit drafts that are first reviewed by the relevant section editor (Redaktionschef for general news, Politikredaktör for politics, etc.). The editor checks for clarity, structure, adherence to the brief and compliance with our standards. The draft then passes to the fact-checking team led by Daniela Vogt (Ansvarig för faktagranskning), who verify all claims, sources, dates, names and figures. Only after the editor and fact-checker have signed off does the article go to the Chefredaktör or a designated deputy for final approval. This process applies to all content types, including features and analyses.
What is the distinction between news, opinion, features and sponsored content?
All content on Politikjournal24 is clearly labelled by category so that readers can distinguish between reporting, analysis and commercial material. News articles report facts without commentary. Opinion pieces, including editorials and guest columns, are clearly marked with an „Opinion“ label. Feature articles are labelled „Feature“ and may include analysis and background, but are still subject to the same fact-checking process.
Sponsored content and content created in partnership with commercial entities is labelled „Sponsored“ or „Partner Content“ at the top of the page. Such content is produced under a separate contract but must still meet our editorial standards for accuracy and fairness. It is never allowed to mislead readers into thinking it is independent journalism. Affiliate links within articles are disclosed with a clear statement at the end of the relevant piece. Our full Sponsored Content Policy and Advertising and Affiliate Disclosure explain these distinctions in detail.
How do you ensure article-level transparency?
Every article on Politikjournal24 carries the full name of the writer who drafted it, as well as the name of the editor who reviewed it and the fact-checker who verified it. This is displayed at the top or bottom of each article. Our aim is that any reader can see exactly who was responsible for every stage of that specific piece.
We also include a publication date and a „last updated“ date for articles that are revised after initial publication. Any significant correction or clarification is noted at the top of the article, and a full log of corrections is maintained on our Corrections Policy page. If an article has been substantially updated, we explain what has changed and why. This commitment applies to news, features and analysis alike.
How do you use AI and automation in your journalism?
Artificial intelligence and digital tools may support research, editing, formatting, translation, metadata generation, headline options, summarisation and transcription. However, AI is never used to generate final copy, fabricate quotes or sources, or replace human editorial judgement. Every piece of published editorial content is reviewed and approved by a human editor before it goes live.
We do not use AI to create bylines, author biographies or expert profiles. Any use of AI tools is disclosed in the relevant article if it materially contributed to the research or drafting stage. Our full AI and Automation Policy provides a detailed account of our procedures and the specific tools we use.
How do you attribute sources and handle named writers?
All writers are named on the articles they produce. We do not use anonymous or pseudonymous bylines for editorial content. Freelance contributors are also named and their credentials are verified before they are commissioned.
Sources are referenced in the text wherever possible, and we provide links to original documents, reports and public records when they are available online. Our writers are expected to attribute direct quotes to named individuals, and to use anonymous sources only in exceptional circumstances when the information is of clear public interest and the source’s safety or livelihood would otherwise be jeopardised. Such sourcing is always explained to the reader. Our Sources and Standards page elaborates on sourcing practices.
How do I make a complaint about an article?
If you believe an article on Politikjournal24 contains a factual error, is misleading or breaches our editorial standards, you should submit a complaint to our dedicated complaints channel. The first point of contact is the fact-checking team at factcheck@politikjournal24.de, or by writing to the Chefredaktör directly at anders.lindqvist@politikjournal24.de.
We aim to acknowledge all complaints within two working days and to resolve them within ten working days. If the complaint is upheld, we will publish a correction, clarification or retraction as appropriate. If you are not satisfied with the outcome, you can escalate the matter through our Complaints Procedure, which includes a review by an independent editorial ombudsman. We take all complaints seriously and treat them as opportunities to improve our work.
